"Hey
Pj what’s the difference between Brave & Fool?" I asked him entering
into gallery where he was reading some book.
"Why
all of sudden you need to know this" he asked.
"Tell
me so that i can tell whether I am brave or fool", I replied.
"Hmmm
let me put it differently. If Bravery is acting then Foolishness is
overacting", he said laughing at his own conclusion.
"Oh
K..Then certainly i am not an Actor", i said.
"But
why you were asking, what you did?" he asked.
"Have
I not told you that I am making a short film on love at first site & its
consequences", I told him my little secret.
"Making
a short film is good move but on love...I didn’t like that", he said
looking back into his book.
"I
knew you would react this way only, but i was having this thought of making
short film on love since long, so I have to do it" I explained.
"Now
you are completely wrong. See, you are making it because you wanted since long
& not because you think it will be best for you. That’s an inappropriate
reason", he said closing his book & giving me hard looks.
"But
something is better than nothing, at least I am doing it & not
procrastinating, had written screenplay, hired D.O.P. & Actors. What else I
can do?"I asked looking deeply into his eyes.
"I
really appreciate your efforts, I do but what if that something proves bad for
you, what if it takes away your first chance from you? You can’t apply that
mentality here because we owe audiences their money, time, expectations &
their belief that films are best medium of entertainment", he said
convincingly.
"Should
I stop this then?"I asked.
"No,
don’t stop but make something you will be proud of, cherish & celebrate in
future. Out of many decisions I took, I regret few & cherish very few.
Learn from my experiences", he said.
"Which
decision you regret and cherish?" I asked.
"I
regret all the offices thing that happened to me, regret working with people
who were not confident, talented, hard working & most importantly not half
passionate as I was. They had very depressing, narrow & low mentality. They
believed I am in this business to help them. To satisfy their personal needs
& dreams, to see them grow as Pro without any input from them", he
explained standing near parapet wall.
"That's
sheer bad luck I must say", I said comforting his regret.
"NO,
there is nothing as bad or good luck; I work on my own luck. And such things
had happened with every legend we know. Be it Gandhi, Buddha, Christ, Bhagat
Singh or Dr. Ambedkar. They fought, worked & died for people but same
people never worked or fought or died for them. They were expecting miracles", he replied
making his point very clear.
"So
which decision you cherish then?” I asked the second obvious question.
"Roping
my younger Bro Sanket in my team as main D.O.P. And my reasons were very clear-
I knew him very well, he was only 18 doing animation course, very energetic,
enthusiastic & agile, had creative visual imagination and I knew his
parents & background very well.
Today
when I look back he proved me right, even more than right for trusting
him", he said proudly.
"I
liked that I knew his parent & background reason", I said smilingly.
"Also
he is very honest, doesn’t lie or cover me when I don’t agree with me &
more importantly he is always ready since day one to work be it day or night,
hot or cold or rainy, he was just one call away", he said.
"Maybe
because he is your bro, other guys are your employees so their hesitance is
self explanatory", i said a matter of fact.
"No,
we don’t treat each other as brothers while working. And his opinions are based
on his own study, interest and standards. And moreover he is more scared of me
as he has seen my anger & faced bad mood. But thing that differentiate him
with others are his attitude, working style, study & passion for film
making & of course his honesty" Pj was clearing my doubts.
"So
you need honest people around you. That’s good. Now I can simply deny your
offer of tea at 4 am", I said teasing him.
"That’s
not allowed. You have to be there when expected to perform", he said
laughing at me.
"But
why I had never seen him here or any of your family members?” I asked.
"Because
I don’t control their personal lives, they are independent. We meet only when
needed but you will see him next week when we will be shooting our scene at
office terrace", he informed me.
I
was super excited by this information. I wanted to be on film set since the day
I was born. “So you were foolish brave. A brave who was once a foolish guy. Let's
go for tea then, from me" I said over excitedly.
That
day I took mental note of being honest, passionate & dedicated to studies
as key to success. No exception, I guess.
The message here is simple: Don't be afraid of results, either you will feel like fool or be proved as brave but what is important is You Do whats needed.
