Many incidents in life tend to give us a staggering rush of emotions caught in sudden dilemma about the path chosen and not chosen. Only the person with sudden dilemma can understand the ferocity of emotions in my mind.
When I was in Delhi, I met with a doctor. He asked me about my profession and I told him that I am a filmmaker Further he asked me about a guy who is there to assist me. I told him he is also the part of our team he works with me, first he somehow believed about me but not willing to accept about my assistant as his appearance is not well enough classy to be a filmmaker and also my age is not reflecting the post I possess. That was okay to me but he told me a certain line “huh, what is stupid work you are in. Go and engage with some other good works.” That moment raised a question living whole life with such arguments.
Now let me put some light on life of the people living and nonliving in filmyworld. We know it needs too much passions to take yourself on the position of doctor about 8 years but I met so many strugglers in my railway travel (between Mumbai-Nagpur), they very proudly tell me that they are working in film industry from many years their posts are not good but they hope one day they may defined their post then what can you say about their passions. It takes too much time for any engineer for completion of his project; let’s take an example of the BurjKhalifa tallest building in the world .It took 5 years for its completion on the other hand take the example of movie AVATAR, James Cameron worked 12 years to complete this movie so how can you comment about project load and timing.In the same movie actors was engaged for many years in practicing their roles ‘Zoe Saldana’(Neytiri in movie) lead actress of the AVATAR went for practicing the role by learning the constructed language‘Na’vi’( language of the fictional moon ‘Pandora’ )and specially trained for physical activities and all this only for a movie which will be released after 12 years , where most of the audience will not recognize the face of the lead actress and many other of the actors. “only an actor will understand the desire of screening his or her face” all their dedication and efforts charges from the current of recognizing their face and here I have seen many ordinary people holding quite okayposition and only works or helps you when you put their name and publish their photos in news or televisions.
Movie Editors works continuously day and night sometimes even whole week without sleep (even we edited “The Night Lamp” for straight 78 hours) and people complain about their extra shifts. Let’s come to the best profession in the world in my view it is of Scientist because they go on researching things, continue study and so that we are now living in world of comfort but the world should know the writer and director are considered at the same position.In every film, the writer writes new story,creates new world, give birth to many characters, writes their lives, for this most of them leave there home and city for months or years. Some people are mechanical engineer some are computer engineer and they do remain in their periphery for whole life but director, writer do study about mechanical engineering and for next time they may jump to study aeronautical engineering or medical or geology or history. Edward Zwick, who directed The Last Samurai, worked extensively with John Logan, the writer. Zwick spent more than a year reading about the Japanese culture and the samurai tradition which is comes under research part. In Bollywood film LAGAAN the whole crew had stayed in desert area for more than 6 month with temperature 48 degree in adverse condition many of them not attend the marriage functions and many of them were unable to meet their parent on death bed.
I agree that all other profession serves the society in a direct way, we don’t. we do it in an indirect way but the point is we serve, we work, we work hard to show your stories, but what about our stories? It’s not about just word shooting, film-making has its more than 100 departments and we all play for crores of the budgets, work day and night because we don’t have 8 hour working shift, we have 24 hour shift and our game is for one day the ‘Release Day’ to entertain you. We don’t earn monthly salary, we earn is only the satisfaction of daily work, we live life full of risk, the glamour we show on screen is not our life,it’s somewhere your life it’s like “DIYA TALE ANDHERA”. I just hope that one day the same doctor will realizes that in every day his family is watching serials and feel joy and relaxation, children watch cartoon get entertained and laugh for whole day, the elders get knowledge watching discovery and news channel, huge public and patient is becoming more aware by watching Advertisement. somehow we are birds of a feather. Some even might know the Charlie Chaplin’s tramp character, he once wrote that
‘Those who can whine while sad become the poets, and those whose can laugh while their whole world crumbling around them becomes actors….”
Cinema is the ultimate pervert art. It doesn't give you what you desire - it tells you how to desire.
